Suspect charged with second degree murder following stabbing in Uxbridge

An suspect has been charged with second degree murder following a stabbing in Uxbridge last week.

According to the DRPS, officers were called to a residence on Allbright Road for a disturbance shortly before 9 a.m. Thursday (Jan. 12).

“Officers arrived and received information that a 66-year-old male had been stabbed at this residence by a known suspect. Police located the victim with life-threatening injuries,” reads a media release.

The victim, John Genereux, 66, of Uxbridge succumbed to his injuries on Monday (Jan. 16) at a Toronto-area hospital.

The suspect was arrested at the scene.

Matthew Lavis, 37, of Uxbridge, has been charged with second degree murder.

This is the first homicide investigation in Durham Region for 2023.
