Highway 12 closed following fatal collision involving train

A section of Highway 12 remains closed in Ramara Township following a multi-vehicle collision involving a train that claimed the life of a Kirkfield man.

According to the OPP, emergency personnel were called shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 25) after two motor vehicles were struck by a train south of Brechin.

Police say one driver — 63-year-old Sean Carpenter of Kirkfield — was rushed to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Another person was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

As of 7 a.m., the highway remained closed between Concession 3 and Concession 6 for the police investigation.
