Crews battling fire in downtown Uxbridge

A section of downtown Uxbridge has been closed following a fire early Wednesday (Sept. 21).

While few details have been released, a social media post from the DRPS notes that Brock Street West is currently closed between Toronto Street and Main Street.

A video from the scene has been shared in a local community group, with the post noting that no injuries have been reported.

Uxbridge Mayor Dave Barton posted an update on the incident shortly after 8 a.m.

“Our incredible team of firefighters with the help from our friends from Stouffville and Scugog contained the blaze to a single building with limited fire damage to the adjoining structures. Thanks to Brock Fire for the back up support of our fire hall while our team were attending to fIre,” the post reads.

“There were no reported injuries from the fire and the Ontario Fire Marshal is expected onsite to assist determining the cause. Expect Brock Street to be closed to vehicular traffic for cleanup.
Durham Social Services and Durham Region Transit have been on scene and will assist with residents who have been displaced.
Our hearts go out to the business owners and residents as they deal with the long term impacts of this fire.”

Two businesses, Sugar FX and Mr. Gourmet Home Food, are closed until further notice.
