Program: Durham Farm and Rural Family Resources Early ON Child and Family Centres provide opportunities for families/children (ages prenatal to 6 years of age), to participate in play and inquiry based programs while offering support to parents/caregivers in their roles. DFRFR offers safe and welcoming environments open to all families. Programs are offered throughout Uxbridge and Brock Township.
Responsibilities: The Family Support Worker will work as a positive and effective member of a team to plan and deliver early learning and family support programs that engage families and young children within the Early ON CFC guidelines. They will plan and implement programs that are culturally sensitive, developmentally appropriate and reflective of the community needs in order to promote areas of development and support parenting. The Family Support Worker will provide training and/or workshops to families regarding child development and parenting as required by the Early ON CFC core service mandate. They will communicate and work collaboratively with partnering agencies to provide support to families.
Position Summary: Assist with planning and day to day operation of parent/child early learning programming. Maintain a clean, healthy, organized, safe and stimulating learning environment. To assist parents and caregivers with accessing services and programs within the community.
Duties and Responsibilities
Administration:
- Plan, organize, monitor and evaluate early learning activities, in-program parent/caregiver workshops and special events.
- Implement, maintain & submit accurate attendance & registration records for all EarlyON programming
- Purchase approved equipment, children’s books, toys and supplies as directed.
- Oversee the maintenance of the centre(s) and all equipment connected with EarlyON programming.
- Manage personal work related expenses.
- Participate in the promotion of Durham Farm and Rural Family Resources in addition to EarlyON programs.
- Participate in local partnerships to provide education, information and support to parents and children as approved by program director.
Direct Service:
- Ensure that participant and visitors to the EarlyON centre(s) are welcome and oriented to the centre(s).
- With Early ON program staff, plan regular programming and special activities which reinforces the interrelationship of care and learning and the benefits of direct family participation in children’s early learning and development. Early Learning programming is rooted in participant and community feedback and needs.
- Plan and implement programs that are culturally sensitive, developmentally appropriate and reflective of the community needs in order to promote areas of development and support parenting.
- Provide pre/post natal information and resources and programs in conjunction with parent education staff and community partners.
- Work directly with both adults and children on the floor.
- Role model effective parenting techniques.
- Support parents/caregivers access community resources.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment, including toy, equipment, kitchen and washroom and resource cleaning/sanitization on a routine basis.
- Providing early identification support to families seeking information around children’s developmental concerns, including community supports and services and referrals.
- Ability to work collaboratively with community partners including sharing physical space, equipment, and resources.
- Maintaining personal professional development, i.e. registration with the college of ECE and attending workshops and conferences in discussion with program director.
Training/Team Building
- Participate in all regularly scheduled staff meetings as directed by program director.
- Participate in in-service training and staff development workshops and external training and conferences as directed by the program director.
- Take part in team building activities and training.
- Participate in maintaining professional development i.e., registration in college of ECE.
- Maintain respect and a professional attitude toward fellow staff.
Qualifications:
- The successful candidate for the Program Coordinator position must be registered with the College of Early Childhood Education (R.E.C.E.) and in good standing.
- The successful candidate will have at least one (1) year of experience working with children and families preferably in a Family Support Program.
- The position requires a knowledge and understanding of “How Does Learning Happen? Ontario Pedagogy for the Early Years”.
- A genuine enthusiasm for working with young children, their parents and caregivers.
- The position requires excellent oral communication and writing skills, demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with community agencies, strong organizational and computer skills and the ability to work in a team environment.
- Police reference check, and Standard First Aid & CPR certificates required.
