Three police officers charged with manslaughter in relation to death of child

Three police officers in Kawartha Lakes have been charged with manslaughter in connection to the death of 18-month-old Jameson Shapiro nearly two years ago.

The three officers — OPP constables Nathan Vanderheyden, Kenneth Pengelly and Grason Cappus — have also been charged with criminal negligence causing death in relation to the incident on Nov. 26, 2020.

The officers are scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 6.

“The matter is now properly before the courts. In consideration of the fair trial interests of the accused, the SIU will make no further comment pertaining to this investigation,” reads a media release.
