Loaded handgun reportedly seized during traffic stop in Port Perry

A 19-year-old from Oshawa has been charged after police reportedly seized a firearm during a traffic stop in Port Perry.

According to the DRPS, an officer conducted a traffic stop in the area of Simcoe Street and Greenway Boulevard Thursday (June 23).

“Investigation revealed that the lone occupant of the motor vehicle was in contravention of the Cannabis Act,” reads a media release.

“As that investigation continued, officers located a loaded firearm.”

Lemount Bailey-Benjamin, age 19, of Oshawa faces numerous firearm and other related charges which include possess loaded restricted/prohibited firearm; occupy motor vehicle with firearm and possess restricted/prohibited firearm no licence or registration certificate.

He was held for a bail hearing.
