Teacher from Scugog charged with luring

A teacher from Scugog Township has been charged with luring related to an incident in 2016.

According to the DRPS, investigators from the Child Exploitation Unit began an investigation in February after receiving information about the online luring of a youth from Kawartha Lakes.

The suspect, a Scugog resident and teacher at Coronation Public School in Oshawa (previously at David Bouchard Public School in Oshawa), also served as a volleyball coach for females at a Durham club.

The suspect was arrested on Wednesday (March 16).

Joel Banbury, 44, has been charged with luring to facilitate the commission of sexual assault and luring to facilitate the commission of sexual interference.

He was held for a bail hearing.

“Investigators want to ensure there are no other victims,” reads a media release.
