A motorist is dead after being hit by a vehicle following a collision on Highway 12 in Scugog Township Saturday (Feb. 19).
While few details have been released, the incident occurred around noon close to Saintfield Road.
The initial collision involved about eight vehicles, Sergeant Kerry Schmidt noted in a social media video.
While officers were en route to the scene, another vehicle travelling on the highway struck an involved motorist that had left their vehicle.
A 67-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.
“She had exited her vehicle and was speaking to other involved drivers in the collision,” Sgt. Schmidt said,
He also noted that visibility in the area was poor at the time.
“Winter weather certainly played a factor,” Sgt. Schmidt said.
The highway was closed for several hours for a police investigation but has since reopened.
