Messy weather on the way

A special weather statement has been issued for much of the area starting Wednesday (Feb. 16) night.

According to Environment Canada, between 15 to 25 mm of rain is possible through the evening into Thursday (Feb. 17).

Freezing rain mixed with ice pellets is possible along with snow accumulations of between 10 to 20 cm Thursday afternoon and evening.

“A low pressure system is expected to track northeast across Lake Erie and Lake Ontario Thursday night which will bring a messy mix of wintry precipitation to southern Ontario. Precipitation will begin as rain this evening and transition to snow Thursday afternoon. Freezing rain and ice pellets are also possible Thursday morning and afternoon,” the statement reads.

“As the track of the low pressure system remains uncertain, precipitation timing and amounts may change.”
