
An Orillia man who allegedly posed as a volunteer firefighter has been charged with sexual assault.
According to the OPP, the female victim met the suspect at a collision scene on Dec. 31, 2021 where he falsely identified himself as a volunteer firefighter. Police say he later attempted to initiate a relationship with the female victim, who reported she was sexually assaulted on Jan. 6.
“The investigation determined that the individual involved was not a volunteer firefighter,” reads a media release from police.
The suspect was arrested on Jan. 27.
Hunter Mackinnon, 28, has been charged with sexual assault.
The accused was held for a bail hearing and remains in custody.
