Lindsay resident facing firearm charges following standoff with police

A Lindsay resident is facing firearms charges following a standoff with police on Saturday (Jan. 8) night.

According to the Kawartha Lakes Police Service, officers were called to a Division Street rooming-house after a male pointed a firearm at another resident around 8 p.m.

“The resident left the house and called police. Officers attended and set up containment around the residence for public safety,” reads a media release.

“Officers made contact with the male and negotiated with him to leave the residence which he refused to do.”

The OPP Tactical Response Unit attended to assist and took over containment around the house.

“After several hours, a warrant was issued, giving officers judicial authority to enter the residence,” the media release reads.

Officers entered the residence just after 2:30 a.m. and took the suspect into custody and seized a replica firearm.

Alexander LeClair, 35, of Lindsay has been charged with pointing a firearm, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose, breaching the conditions of release order not to possess any weapons or firearms and failure to notify change of address.

He was held for a bail hearing.
