DRPS Festive RIDE wraps up with 65 charged for impaired driving

A total of 65 people were charged with impaired driving during DRPS Festive RIDE.

This year’s campaign wrapped up over the weekend, with officers conducting spotchecks in Ajax, Clarington, Pickering, Scugog, Whitby and Oshawa.

Officers stopped 120 vehicles in the final week and six people were charged.

“After the final week, the Festive RIDE team has charged a total of 65 motorists for drinking/drug driving offences. Last year, a total of 51 were charged,” reads a media release.

“Another 18 motorists have registered a WARN on a roadside screening device and had their driver’s licence suspended for 3-days.  Last year, a total of 21 drivers had their licences suspended for registering a WARN.”

In addition to those charged with impaired driving, 14 others were charged under the Criminal Code.

A total of 265 motorists were charged under the Highway Traffic Act.

“Although the Festive RIDE has concluded this season, impaired driving remains one of our main priorities to ensure our roadways are safe for all roadway users,” reads a media release.
