Environment Canada has issued a weather advisory for most of the area as a winter storm is expected Saturday (Jan. 1).
According to the advisory, snow is expected to develop in the area this evening and will likely continue into Sunday.
“Total snowfall amounts of 4 to 8 cm are possible by the time the snow comes to an end Sunday afternoon. Travel may be hazardous tonight and Sunday morning as untreated surfaces are expected to become snow covered and icy,” the advisory reads.
“This snow is the result of a low pressure system passing south of Lake Erie tonight. There is still uncertainty regarding the track of this system. Should the low pressure system track farther south, the resulting snowfall amounts would be less.”
Motorists should expect hazardous winter driving conditions and adjust travel plans accordingly.
“Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve,” it reads.
