Water, sewer rates to rise by nearly $20 for average homeowner in Durham

The average household in Durham will be paying nearly $20 more for water and sewer services next year.

Regional council recently approved the 2022 water supply and sanitary sewer user rates, with a combined increase of 1.8 per cent, which translates to an estimated annual increase of $19.52.

In addition to ongoing maintenance and operation of the water supply and sanitary sewerage systems, the Region has several major capital projects planned for 2022.

They include a new well and pumphouse in Cannington; preliminary and detailed design for the replacement of the sanitary sewage pumping station and the new water storage facility in Scugog Township; watermain and sanitary sewer work in Uxbridge; and the replacement of 20 kilometres of watermain and sanitary sewer pipe.

The increase in user rates will take effect on Jan. 1, 2022.
