Sixteen people were charged with impaired driving offences during the second week of the DRPS Festive RIDE campaign.
More than 1,400 vehicles were stopped at checkpoints throughout the region (Ajax, Clarington, Pickering, Whitby, Port Perry and Uxbridge), with 27 motorists given roadside breath tests.
In addition to the 16 people charged, five others received licence suspensions including two novice drivers.
Four criminal code charges were laid, as well as 27 charges under the Highway Traffic Act.
“After the third week, the Festive RIDE team has charged a total of 35 motorists for impaired driving offences,” reads a media release from the DRPS.
“Last year at the same time, 24 had been charged.”
