Suspect charged twice in one weekend for thefts from vehicles in Georgina

A suspect is facing charges after being arrested twice in one weekend for allegedly committing thefts from vehicles in Georgina.

According to the York Regional Police, officers responded to a report of a male suspect breaking into vehicles in the area of Spring Road and The Queensway South shortly before 7:30 p.m. last Friday (Nov. 26).

“Officers located and arrested the suspect and a number of items believed to be stolen were found in his possession,” reads a media release.

“The suspect was charged and was later released with a court date.”

Police say that officers received a call for a suspicious person believed to be entering vehicles in the area of Amberview Drive and Fairwood Avenue around 8 p.m. the following day (Nov. 27).

“The same suspect was located and was charged with the additional offences,” a media release reads.

“Investigators believe that there may have been additional thefts from other vehicles that have not been reported to police. If you had items stolen from your vehicle, please come forward to report.”

Mathew Sedgley, 38, of no fixed address has been charged with six counts of theft under $5,000 and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
