Charges laid after 10-month-old child ingests opioids in Woodville

One person has been charged after a 10-month-old child ingested an opioid-based substance in Woodville.

According to the OPP, officers and EMS were dispatched following a report that the child was in critical condition after being exposed to the substance shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Nov. 9.

“The infant was transported to a Toronto-area hospital,” reads a media release.

One person fled the scene, and was later arrested upon attempting to re-enter the scene, police said.

The individual, who will not be named to protect the identity of the victim, has been charged with criminal negligence cause bodily harm, fail to provide the necessaries of life and two counts of mischief

The accused remains in custody, police noted, but did not provide any details on a court date.
