Community rallies for family of late Kawartha Lakes police officer

An online fundraiser has been organized for the family of a Kawartha Lakes police officer who passed away last week.

Following his death on Nov. 5, Constable Mike Broderick left behind a wife, Erin, and daughter Maggie.

He joined the police service in Lindsay in April 2009 and was working in the uniform division at the time of his death.

“Mike served his community as a Kawartha Lakes police officer with honour and distinction for 12 years,” a post on the fundraiser reads.

“Now, we as a community must come together to support a family who has given so much.”

The fundraiser (see link below) has generated more than $9,500 in little more than two hours since it launched.

At the request of the Kawartha Lakes Police Service, the OPP’s criminal investigations branch and the Ontario Coroners Office will conduct the death investigation.

No details have been provided on the circumstances surrounding the officer’s death.
