Kawartha Lakes Police are mourning the death of an officer who had been with the service since 2009.
In a special release issued Saturday (Nov. 6), police informed the public of the passing of Constable Mike Broderick.
“It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the Kawartha Lakes Police Service announces the death of one of our members on November 5, 2021,” reads the release.
According to the release, Const. Broderick joined KLPS in April 2009 and was working in the uniform division.
He leaves behind a wife and daughter, police say.
“Mike was an extremely dedicated officer who served his community with professionalism and compassion,” said Chief Mark Mitchell.
“His death is heartbreaking for all of us. Our thoughts are with his family, friends and loved ones and we will continue supporting them through this tragic time.”
Supports are also being made available to members of KLPS, according to the release.
“At the request of the Kawartha Lakes Police Service, the Ontario Provincial Police Criminal Investigations Branch will be conducting the death investigation along with the Coroners’ office,” continues the statement.
No further details have been made public.
“At this time, Mike’s family has requested privacy while they are grieving the loss of their loved one,” the release concludes.
