Two issues have been identified with the Rick MacLeish Memorial Community Centre roof in Cannington. Replacement or repair of the roof was considered as part of the 2021 work plan. Further investigation while investigating the scope of the project revealed ant infestation of one of the roof structural beams inside the arena.

The infestation will be addressed in the coming weeks with the services of an exterminator. The roof will be tendered in January 2022 with the repair to take place in the spring of 2022. The roof coatings which will be required for the repair will need to be applied in temperatures that maintain 10 degrees overnight and at this point of the year, it is very unlikely we will have the stretch of weather which will be suitable to allow for application and to have the time to properly cure.

The Arena will remain closed until the repairs are completed this spring. While timelines for completion are uncertain at this point, the arena will be reopened when complete.
