Georgina resident sentenced to jail time for defrauding OMHA

A Georgina resident has pleaded guilty to defrauding the Ontario Minor Hockey Association of $2.4 million.

According to the York Regional Police, 47-year-old Jennifer Guertin (formerly Robinson) pleaded guilty to charges of theft over $5,000, breach of trust, two counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and unauthorized use of computer with intent to commit an offence during an appearance on Sept. 29.

“In November 2018, officers with the Financial Crimes Unit began an investigation after receiving a report of missing funds from the OMHA,” reads a media release from police.

“Investigators determined that during the accused’s tenure as director of finance, she had stolen approximately $2.4 million dollars from the association.”

Guertin was charged in June of 2019.

She was sentenced a 48-month jail sentence and ordered to pay $100,000 restitution to the organization.
