
Two people face charges after police seized 990 cannabis plants and 231 pounds of processed bud in Trent Lakes.
According to the OPP, one year after thousands of cannabis plants and hundreds of pounds of bud were seized from a Laplantes Road property, a 2021 investigation revealed the same location was again being used in contravention of the Cannabis Act.
On Aug. 18, officers allegedly seized 990 outdoor cannabis plants. Furthermore, police located a cave accessible through a cabin built on the side of the escarpment.
“Within the cave which went approximately 50 meters into the escarpment, officers located and seized 231 pounds of cannabis bud which was packaged in one pound vacuum sealed bags,” reads a release from police.
According to the OPP, in August of 2020, officers executed a search warrant at the same property. Police seized 3386 cannabis plants and 530 pounds of processed cannabis bud.
Two people have been charged with Cannabis Act violations.
Guohua CHI (age 46) of Scarborough, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
• Possession for the purpose of distributing
• Cultivate, propagate or harvest any cannabis plant at a place that is not their dwelling house
Guang XU (age 63) of Whitchurch-Stouffville, Ontario was arrested and charged with:
• Possession for the purpose of distributing
• Cultivate, propagate or harvest any cannabis plant at a place that is not their dwelling house
The accused were released and are scheduled to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on September 23, 2021.
