Police reportedly seize knife, cocaine and currency in Orillia

A suspect is facing drug and weapon charges after police conducted an investigation in downtown Orillia.

According to the OPP, officers observed an intoxicated male on Mississaga Street around 3 a.m. Sunday (July 25).

“After a brief investigation, the male was arrested and transported to the OPP detachment. The officers performed a search and located a quantity of cocaine, Canadian currency and a knife,” reads a media release.

Steven McGinn, 29, of Orillia, has been charged with possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine; possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000; obstruct peace officer and possession of weapon for dangerous purpose.

They were released on an undertaking and are scheduled to appear in Orillia court on Sept. 7.
