Teen charged after violent home invasion in Bowmanville

A 15-year-old has been charged following a home-invasion style robbery at a Bowmanville residence.

At approximately 10 p.m. on June 25, Durham Regional Police responded to calls of a home invasion in the area of Meadowview Boulevard and Liberty Street in Bowmanville.

“The suspect entered the home and was confronted by a 66-year-old female victim. The suspect made demands before assaulting her with a weapon. Her husband, a 77-year-old male, intervened and was also assaulted by the suspect. The suspect fled the residence,” reads a release from police.

According to DRPS, both victims were taken to a local hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

“Officers completed an extensive search of the area with the assistance of K-9 and Air1. Further investigation led to a search warrant at a residence in the area. Investigators arrested the suspect and seized evidence in relation to the home invasion,” continues the release.

A 15-year-old of Bowmanville faces charges of robbery, break and enter and two counts of aggravated assault. He was held for a bail hearing.
