The owners of a new Beaverton business are waiting for the police to round up a suspect following a theft over the weekend.

Dollar Bits and Discounts is slated to open later this week at the former Foodland location on Simcoe Street. As crews were unloading items for the store from a vehicle Saturday around 5:30 p.m., a man walking by made off with cash and documents from the vehicle’s front seat.

“This kind of brazen theft is not only wrong when it happens normally but especially awful when it targets a small family-owned business,” a social media post from the business reads.

In an interview, the store’s operators said that while the theft was quickly reported to police, it took officers several hours to respond.

The suspect has not been arrested even though the incident was caught on video.
