Resident of Georgina group home charged with sexual assault

A 39-year-old man is charged after police say a resident of a Georgina group home was sexually assaulted.

On June 17, York Regional Police were advised by staff of a group home that an adult male resident with a developmental delay had reported the assault. According to police, the alleged assault occurred between June 3 and June 17.

On June 18, officers arrested the suspect, who they say was staying at the same group home.

“The accused is known to frequent group homes throughout the Greater Toronto Area and investigators are appealing to anyone with information or any additional victims to please come forward,” reads a release from police.

Edward Alvarez, 39, is charged with sexual assault.

The accused was released on bail and will be appearing again before the Ontario Court of Justice in Newmarket on July 15.
