A Scugog resident is facing a handful of charges following a fraud investigation.
According to the DRPS, the investigation ran from October 2019 until April 2021 and focused on a suspect who was stealing items and making fraudulent returns at various Home Depot locations throughout the region.
“The suspect would make a purchase and take the item to his vehicle. He would re-enter the store and steal the same or slightly more expensive version of the product,” reads a media release.
“He would then return the item with the receipt at a different store.”
Home Depot suffered a loss of approximately $7,000, police said.
James Dixon, 55, of Highway 12 in Scugog has been charged with fraud over $5,000; theft over $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
He was released on an undertaking.
