An 84-year-old man from Trent Lakes has died after a truck struck a water truck in Uxbridge on Thursday (June 17).
According to Durham Regional Police, just before 10 a.m. Thursday, officers responded to a two-vehicle collision at Uxbridge Concession Road 6 and Ashworth Road.
Police say a Chevrolet pick-up truck, operated by a man from Trent Lakes, was traveling east on Ashworth Road which was closed to traffic for road resurfacing.
“The Chevrolet struck a stopped 2008 dump/water truck which was on the eastbound lane shoulder. The Chevrolet pick-up truck became engulfed in flames as a result of the collision,” reads a release from DRPS.
“The driver of the water truck assisted in the extraction of the victim and witnesses performed CPR while 9-1-1 was contacted.”
Police say the driver of the Chevrolet was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver of the water truck was reportedly uninjured.
Investigators were called and the roadway was closed for several hours to collect evidence. The investigation is ongoing. Police would like to hear from any witnesses to this collision who have not already spoken to police.
