Police are investigating an assault on a 14-year-old boy at the Beaverton Harbour that was captured on video earlier this week.
The mother of the victim reached out to The Brock Voice shortly after the incident, sharing the shocking video before it began circulating through the community (see note below).
“My hope is that this never happens again. That our kids are safe to go for a bike ride or a swim without being attacked,” she said.
While the circumstances of what led to the altercation are in dispute, the video starts as the boy is pushed by another teen, who appears older and is flanked by at least two friends.
Throughout the course of the minute-long video, the 14-year-old only defends himself as he is knocked to the ground and punched upwards of 15 times.
The aggressor also kicks him twice in the head before a second teen joins in to carry the 14-year-old to the end of the pier before throwing him into the water.
Several teens look on as bystanders, though none intervened.
“No one helped him out of the water. No one took his side,” the mother of the victim said, noting that her son was treated at the hospital for minor injuries.
According to posts on social media, a number of residents have contacted police after seeing the video.
Police have confirmed to members of township council that they are investigating the incident.
We’ve reached out to the DRPS and are expecting a response Friday (June 11).
Editor’s note: We are not sharing the video at this time due to its graphic nature and the ongoing police investigation.
