A Clarington contractor is facing more than two dozen charges following a fraud investigation.
According to the DRPS, officers received reports of a suspect who was taking deposits for jobs that were not completed in July of 2020.
“The suspect, who operated the business ‘Provincial Site Services,’ went door to door, offering to complete jobs and taking deposits. The suspect would either take the deposit and not return, or initiate the work but not complete the job,” reads a media release.
“The suspect closed the business down several months ago.”
Police say that 14 victims, who have suffered a combined loss of approximately $90,000, have been identified through the investigation thus far.
“The Financial Crimes Unit would like to ensure there are no other victims,” the media release notes.
Steven Gamsby, 56, of Oban Court in Clarington is charged with four counts of fraud over $5,000, nine counts of fraud under $5,000, four counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, nine counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and personation.
He was released on an undertaking.
