A 19-year-old man from Beaverton is facing charges after a police pursuit ended with officers deploying a spike belt early Monday (April 26) morning.
According to the DRPS, an officer spotted a black sedan travelling at a high rate of speed on Highway 12 in the Cannington area around 1:15 a.m.
The vehicle also failed to stop at traffic lights and stop signs, police said.
“Members attempted to stop the vehicle and it nearly struck a police vehicle while fleeing,” reads a social media post.
“Members pursued the vehicle and deployed a spike belt and successfully stopped the vehicle on Simcoe Street near Brock Concession Road 7.”
A resident who witnessed part of the pursuit told The Brock Voice that they saw three police vehicles speeding after the suspect vehicle on Cameron Street shortly before 1:30 a.m.
The suspect has been charged with dangerous operation of a conveyance and flight from peace officer.
His name has not yet been released by police.
