DRPS won’t be making arbitrary stops under new lockdown rules

The DRPS will not be arbitrarily stopping motorists or pedestrians to enforce the new COVID-19 restrictions “at this time.”

“Public safety is always our focus. In regards to the new provincial regulations, we will continue to engage our community, educate when appropriate & enforce when necessary. At this time, this does not include randomly stopping vehicles in order to enforce the stay-at-home orders,” reads a social media post.

A follow-up post notes this decision also applies to pedestrians.

Police services in Kawartha Lakes, Toronto, Peel, Halton, Ottawa, London, Waterloo, Guelph, Niagara, Barrie, Peterborough and others have issued similar statements.
