Cannington daycare closed following three confirmed cases of COVID-19

A child care centre in Cannington has been closed following three confirmed cases of COVID-19.

While few details have formally been released, a social media post from the director of Stonemoor Daycare Centre notes that the confirmed cases have been linked to the pre-school room at the facility.

“Working with Durham Region Public Health we are following all required directives and made the decision to close the entire centre to help minimize any spread,” the post reads.

It also notes that an outbreak has been declared at the facility, though that information has not yet been confirmed publicly by the Durham Region Health Department.

Parents with children at Stonemoor are still awaiting further direction from the health department as of Saturday (April 10) morning.

“Stonemoor families were advised that we would hear from the health department about the next steps because each family’s would be different. Some children may have been in direct contact and some not,” said one parent, who asked to remain anonymous.

“It’s pretty frustrating – parents haven’t been given any direction at this point, so people could be spreading it further.”

As of Saturday morning, there are 28 active outbreaks at schools and child care centres in Durham. Nine schools throughout the region are closed entirely.
