Pilot found dead after small plane crashes on Lake Simcoe

The pilot of a small plane died after it crashed on Lake Simcoe, near Lagoon City, Monday (March 15) afternoon.

According to the OPP, emergency crews were called around 4 p.m. responded to the shoreline and were transported to the scene, more than one kilometer off shore, utilizing an airboat.

Sadly, the lone male occupant of the plane was located deceased, police said.

His name will not be released until a post mortem examination is conducted and the next of kin are notified.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada, in conjunction with the office of the Chief Coroner, have assumed the investigation into the cause of the crash.
