Rescue on Lake Simcoe underway after group reportedly goes through the ice

Seven people rescued from Lake Simcoe

 

Emergency personnel have gathered at the Beaverton Harbour following reports that a group of people have gone through the ice on Lake Simcoe near Thorah Island Friday (March 12).

Brock Township Deputy Fire Chief Wayne Ward confirmed that an ice rescue is in progress, involving the police and paramedics from Durham and York regions, as well as firefighters from Brock, Ramara and Georgina.

Though Deputy Chief Ward could not provide details on the amount of people requiring assistance, a social media post retweeted by police notes that number could be as high as eight.
