SIU investigating collision involving stolen police cruiser in Whitby

The SIU is investigating after three people were injured in a collision involving a stolen police cruiser in Whitby Sunday evening.

According to a media release, DRPS officers initially responded to a storage facility on Victoria Street for a report of a suspicious person.

“While officers were investigating, an individual took off in a cruiser, and officers followed,” the media release reads.

The stolen cruiser was involved in a collision with a civilian vehicle in the intersection of Garden Street and Dundas Street East around 7:30 p.m.

“From the civilian vehicle, a 69-year-old woman and a 12-year-old boy were taken to hospital where they were diagnosed with serious injuries,” the media release reads.

“The 30-year-old male who was driving the stolen cruiser was also taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries.”

The SIU has assigned four investigators, two forensic investigators and one collision reconstructionist to the case.
