Lindsay woman charged with theft twice in roughly 12 hours

A Kawartha Lakes woman is facing charges for a pair of theft incidents roughly 12 hours apart.

According to the Kawartha Lakes Police Service, officers were called to a business on Kent Street West regarding a shoplifter around 2 p.m. Friday (Feb. 12).

“A witness provided a description of the suspect and vehicle that she was observed leaving the area in. Officers attended the area and located the vehicle and suspect,” reads a media release.

Julie Mitton, 36, was charged with theft under $5,000 and two counts of possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000.

Shortly before 3 a.m. the following day, officers were called about a woman going through vehicles on Short Avenue in Lindsay.

“Officers attended the area and located a female sitting in a vehicle which did not belong to her,” a media release states.

“The accused was found in possession of stolen property and placed under arrest.”

Mitton was charged with theft under $5,000, possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 and possession of a Schedule I substance.

She is scheduled to appear in Lindsay court on April 22.
