
The SIU is investigating the circumstances surrounding an interaction today in East Gwillimbury that resulted in two York Regional Police officers fatally shooting a 37-year-old man.
According to a media release, officers were dispatched to a residence on Ridge Gate Crescent in Mount Albert for a weapons call around 2:30 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 6).
“Upon arrival, officers located a deceased woman at the front door of the residence,” the media release reads.
“Officers then entered the residence and became involved in an interaction with a man. Two officers discharged their firearms and the man was struck. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.”
Two children and a woman were transported to hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
Five investigators and four forensic investigators have been assigned to the case by the SIU.
“At this time, two subject officers and one witness officer have been designated,” the media release reads.
