
A Whitby man has been charged after allegedly posting child pornography on a social media application.
According to the DRPS, investigators were alerted to the upload of illegal images on the Snapchat application by the National Child Exploitation Crime Centre.
A subsequent investigation led to the man’s arrest.
“A number of electronic devices were seized from the accused and were forensically analyzed by investigators,” reads a media release.
“As a result of this analysis, investigators believe that there remain a number of unidentified victims and they are seeking to identity them.”
Police say the suspect was active throughout 2020 over multiple online applications including Snapchat, TikTok, Omegle, Likee and KIK Messenger.
“Screen names used include: dirtyboy, dirtyboui, Daddy Dirty, Virus Redbeast and Rock Shan Rock (and variations of these screen names),” the media release reads.
“Investigators are looking to speak with anyone who may have had contact with the suspect online.”
Karthik Manimaran, 33, of Whitby has charged with possession of child pornography, accessing child pornography and distribution of child pornography.
