
One person has been charged and another is sought after a dog was stolen in a street-level robbery in Whitby last week.
According to the DRPS, officers were called to the area of Ash Street and Mary Street around 11 p.m. on Dec. 30.
“A female victim was walking her two dogs when she was approached by two suspects. The suspects forcefully took one of the dogs, described as a four-year-old brown and white mixed Bulldog named Nina,” a media release reads.
“The suspects fled to a waiting vehicle. A female bystander witnessed the incident and attempted to assist and was sprayed in the face with an unknown substance. The suspects fled the scene in a westbound direction in a white SUV with one of the dogs.”
The female victims sustained minor injuries, police say.
Ali Habeib, 28, of Clippper Lane in Pickering has been charged with robbery, assault with a weapon and administer noxious thing. He was released on an undertaking.
Investigators continue to look for a second suspect, who is described as a male, black, tall, heavy build, orange/blonde hair and goes by the name of ‘Deebo.’
The stolen dog has not been located.
