Four people were charged with impaired driving over the final week of the DRPS Festive RIDE campaign.
Roadside checks were conducted in Ajax, Pickering, Whitby, Oshawa and Clarington through the week.
In all, 51 people were charged during the campaign, down from 104 in 2019. Nearly 8,500 vehicles were stopped by officers, a decrease from the 19,624 stopped a year ago.
“Another 21 motorists have registered a WARN on a roadside screening device and had their driver’s licence suspended for 3-days. Last year, a total of 86 drivers had their licences suspended for registering a WARN,” reads a media release.
“The big decline in the numbers is attributed to fewer vehicles on the road due to the pandemic.”
A full list of those charged with impaired driving will be posted this week on the DRPS website.
