Deer rescued from Lake Simcoe succumbs to injuries

Sadly, a deer rescued from the icy waters of Lake Simcoe in Georgina on Boxing Day (Dec. 26) has died.

Volunteers at Shades of Hope Wildlife Refuge in Pefferlaw shared the tragic update on Wednesday (Dec. 30) afternoon.

“The battle for this life is now over. Our Lake Simcoe doe quietly passed away this morning as the cellulitis and myopathy became just too painful and invasive for her to overcome. Although we managed her pain and diligently treated her physical issues, a win was just not to be,” reads a post from Shades of Hope.

“As I look back over the last several days, I am so very appreciative of the efforts of so many to help save this one suffering animal. Thank you to all who assisted, cared and provided support. Every life has a purpose and each matters! It is important to care.”
