Regional officials are underscoring the importance of supporting local business during ‘Shop in Durham’ week.
Running from Dec. 14 to 20, the campaign is designed to celebrate the strength and perseverance that Durham’s business community has displayed in 2020 and its ongoing contributions to the local economy.
“All residents are invited to shop local across Durham’s eight local area municipalities for their holiday gift-giving and share messages of support,” reads a media release.
Here’s how you can take part:
– Share your holiday finds on social media using the hashtag #ShopInDurham. Participants will be entered to win one of eight grand prize packs from Durham-based businesses;
– Add the #ShopInDurham Facebook frame to your profile picture or Facebook stories to help spread the message of support. Select your profile picture to add a frame, and search ‘#ShopInDurham’ or ‘Durham Region’ to add it to your profile; and,
– Download Durham Tourism’s free Facebook cover and Twitter header to help spread the word. Businesses are also invited to use the free Facebook template and Twitter template to add a photo and create their own customized banner.
“COVID-19 has impacted local businesses in many ways. Shop In Durham Week is an opportunity to celebrate our business community and the obstacles they’ve overcome as a result of the pandemic. This week, help support your local economy by spending your dollars locally – Shop in Durham,” said Regional Chair John Henry.
“This week, and year-round, shopping local can have a big impact on small businesses. When you help support a local business, you’re supporting Durham’s network of entrepreneurs – the same entrepreneurs that enable job creation, boost our economy and preserve our local neighbourhoods. This week is an opportunity to celebrate everything our local business community does for the local economy,” added Simon Gill, the Region’s director of economic development and tourism.
