A Beaverton family that was targeted by thieves over the weekend has been touched by an outpouring of community support heading into the holiday season.
Carmela Ruscica was one of the Simcoe Street residents that awoke Sunday (Dec. 6) to find that items in her vehicle had been stolen overnight. In addition to ownership and insurance papers, the thieves made off with her partner’s work gear as well as Christmas gifts for their 10-year-old daughter.
“They took all of the presents we had bought,” Ruscica said.
“They tried to steal Christmas away from her.”
Within hours of the story being shared on media, friends and neighbours began dropping off items at her door.
“We live in such an amazing community,” Ruscica said.
“We are humbled and so very thankful.”
Ruscica also noted that she’s tried to report the theft to police but has yet to receive a call back from an officer.
