Ward 3 Councillor Walter Schummer will temporarily serve as one of Brock Township’s representatives on regional council.
The move comes after Mayor Debbie Bath-Hadden announced Friday (Nov. 20) that she will be taking a leave of absence to focus on her health for the next several months.
“At this time, I do not have a timetable for my return, but I can take comfort knowing that the Township is in good hands with (Regional Councillor) Ted Smith as deputy mayor, a dedicated council, and devoted staff looking after the best interests of our community,” she said in a statement.
Her leave was discussed by members of council during a special meeting Monday (Nov. 23) afternoon, leading to a motion from Ward 2 Councillor Claire Doble at the regular session that evening.
“We have to make sure that the Township of Brock has two voices at the (regional council) table,” Coun. Doble said.
The motion was approved, with Ward 5 Councillor Lynn Campbell voting in opposition.
“I appreciate the show of support by most of council and will endevour to serve the Region and Brock residents well,” Coun. Schummer noted in a social media post.
