Oshawa teen charged after reports of erratic driving in Scugog Township

A 15-year-old from Oshawa faces charges after police used a spike belt to stop a vehicle last week.

At approximately 10 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 8), Durham Regional Police responded to reports of a red Honda with stolen plates driving erratically on Simcoe Street in Scugog Township.

“The driver was driving at a high rate of speed and swerving all over the roadway,” reads a release from DRPS.

“The driver lost control initially near Simcoe Street and Shirley Road and the vehicle spun out of control. However, the driver continued to drive away at a high rate of speed.”

Police say officers deployed a spike belt to stop the vehicle.

“The driver once again lost control of the vehicle and hit a guard rail before being arrested. The teen suffered minor injuries,” continues the release.

A 15-year-old Oshawa male is charged with Dangerous Operation and Possession of Stolen Property Under $5,000. He was held for a bail hearing.
