More than $50,000 has been donated for the family of a Sunderland man killed in a farming accident last month.
Mac Parsons, 32, died on Sept. 18 leaving behind a wife, Jen, and three young children – nine-year-old Sierra, seven-year-old Wade and five-year-old Charlie.
An online fundraiser was launched in the days following, with hundreds of donations pouring in.
“Jen has asked me to thank everyone for all the support and love that this community has provided her and the family for the last week,” said Kayla McKay, a close friend of the family, in a recent interview.
“She is so full of gratitude even at this most heartbreaking time. But that’s Jen. She wants people to know that their actions and condolences are being heard and felt, even though we all know she has heavier things in her heart.”
The family has been touched by an outpouring of community support, McKay said.
“The success of this fundraiser is mind-blowing. With every donation comes a new realization that Mac Parsons was a honorable man and because of this – and so many other reasons – his family deserves the peace of mind to remember him that way,” she said.
“I am forever grateful that this will provide Jen and the kids time. Because that’s what this is – buying time for peace to be found, a new normal to be made and preparing for the inevitable entry back into the world, even if it is a little less bright without Mac’s smile.”
