Police searching for information on man shot and killed by officers in Haliburton County

Police are searching for information on the man that was shot and killed by officers in Haliburton County back in July.

According to a media release from the OPP, investigators are looking to speak with anyone that knew Leslie Hegedus of Dysart et al Township and formerly of Thurstonia in Kawartha Lakes.

Hegedus, 73, was fatally shot during an interaction with OPP officers on July 15.

The incident also remains under investigation by the SIU.

According to information previously released, the OPP were notified that Hegedus had assaulted individuals at a business on Highway 35 in Minden before he left in a vehicle around 9:30 a.m.

“An officer observed the vehicle and commenced following it for a short period of time,” reads a media release from the SIU.

“Based on a query of the vehicle’s licence plate, officers made their way to a residence on Indian Point Road. Outside the residence, there was an interaction with the man and two officers discharged their firearms. The man was struck.”

He was reportedly transported to hospital where he was pronounced dead at 11:45 a.m.
