A 17-year-old from Peterborough is facing a number of charges after allegedly ramming a police cruiser – repeatedly – following an attempted traffic stop.
According to the OPP, an officer attempted to stop the teen’s vehicle for speeding on North Monaghan Parkway around 1:15 p.m. Wednesday (Sept. 16).
“The vehicle fled at a high rate of speed but officers did not pursue due to concerns for public safety,” reads a media release.
“Officers were able to obtain the vehicle’s licence plate and attended the registered owner’s residence. The vehicle was located and (the driver) attempted to flee officers again by repeatedly ramming a police cruiser. The driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot but was arrested at a nearby residence.”
The teen, whose name has not been released, has been charged with flight from peace officer, dangerous operation, assault a peace officer with a weapon and speeding.
They are slated to appear in Peterborough court on Nov. 9.
