A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect for much of the area heading into Wednesday (Sept. 2) evening.
Environment Canada issued an alert for Durham Region and Kawartha Lakes around 11 a.m.
“Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing damaging wind gusts and heavy rain. Severe thunderstorms are possible this afternoon or early this evening with wind gusts near 90 kilometres per hour moving west to east through the region,” reads the notice.
“Very strong wind gusts can damage buildings, down trees and blow large vehicles off the road. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads.”
